No I think Matt should have fought like a man.
-Scotsman
Yeah, I agree with his decision.
-WCA$amuel
No, not really.
-WCAjaken
I liked Matts decision. Because he wanted to respect his mother and stayed nutral instead of joining the South or North.

I was pleased with Matt's decision, because even though he wanted to stay on his farm with his Father, he is still a child, and he should go with his Mother. He can always go back to the farm when he becomes old enough to live on his own.

I don't agree with Matt's decision but I do see why he did it. I think that I would have liked it better if he had stayed because I think that he should have went with Jesse. Now that he is up north, he won't have to fight which is a good thing but he won't be able to know about his friends and wheither or not anything happened to them.

no i dont think that was the best choice

I think he should have done what he had if he didnt do the things he did you never know what would have happened if he didnt do it.

I am partial with Matt's decision. i think that he made a good decision so that he could stay with his mother and help her with his younger siblings.
but i do believe that he also should have stayed in missouri. it is his homeplace, where he has grown up. i believe that he would have felt more at home if he would have stayed in MO. along with his father and his grave, and that he could stay with jess a little longer. also when susie got out of jail he could be with her. and he would have been able to farm and take care of his fathers home.
i am ok with matts decision but i think he would have felt better staying in MO.

I agree with Matt's decision to move to the North with his family. I believe that he made a good decision because he chose to do what a real man would do and show respect towards his mother. Instead of listening to one of his best friends, Jesse, and stay a confederate he chose to stay nuetral and move with his family

I think he made the right decision. But you don't know if Susie and him actually like end up together!

Yes, I do agree with Matt's decision. I say this because Matt is to young to be living without his mother, not to mention his sisters and brothers. He loved them dearly and would never wanted to be separated. I know this because when he was taken away to work and sign the oath all he could think about was his family. Matt is an independent boy but he doesn't have to show it at the age of only fifteen. Matt made a wise decision and as I was looking over the other comments people said and when I read WCASami, I thought the same thing. That was that Matt can always go back and visit the farm again and when older he can go live on the land again!

I respect Matt's decision to go with his family, but I was disappointed that he did not stay with Jesse and fight.

No, I think that he should of gone and fought because that was what he was wanting to do.

I also think matt should have fought like a man too

I was displeased I didn't like the end of the book at all. But the rest was ok.
I think that Matt made the right decision because, his mom needs him to help with the children. Also because Clayton would not be able to help as much as Matt can.
Pablo
I am pleasesd with Matt's decosopm at the end of the book because he did it not only to please his mother but for the safety of himself and his family.

I think it would have made the book more interesting if Matt would have gone with Jesse, but I believe it was the right choice for him to go with his family. I think if he had gone with Jesse he would have put his life in major danger and I don't think he would have done well without having his family around. So, yes over all the decision Matt made was the right one for him.

I was happy about how Matt decided to go with his family and not go with Jesse. Matt needed to stay with them to protect them and teach Ben about things.
I was happy that Matt decided to go with his family and not Jesse. He needed to stay with them so he could protect them and teach Ben all the things he had to know.

I agree with Matt and I also disagree. I wish that Matt would have keept Salt. Jesse could have gone and find his own horse! He could go off and break a horse, if he needed a horse that fast!

i think matt made the best decision. i think its better for him to stay at his hosue and help wiht his family.
I think that matt made the right decision i think he is better off with his family then with jess.
Sidney Crosby
I am glad Matt did what he did because his Mother and family really need his help to stay safe. He isnt old enough to fight a war when he turns 18 he can do what he wants.
Charmander
I can understand both sides of this. Matt wanted to stay with his family and help them as much as he can. But also he wanted to stay at the farm where he'd lived his whole life and where his dad was. Also, Susie and Jesse were there. However, I don't think that he should have gone off to Quantril's camp with Jesse though because Matt said that he would much rather farm than fight.

No,I dont agree with his decision

No,I dont agree with his decision

I can see both positive and negitive reasons on matts choice. However, it think that I would have chosen to go because i would not want to be away from my family for a long period of time.

I liked Matt's decision. I believe that he made the right choice staying with his family, and that the choice will pay off for him by getting him an education.
-brettf4
I agree with Matt's decision not to fight the man at the end of the book because he was respecting his mother's wishes for their family not to get in the middle of the fight by attacking onside establishing what side they are on. I also agree with him that he stayed with his family because in the long run he will have a better education and will be with his family and be more safe than if he was to stay and fight in his neighborhood.

To all -
I enjoyed reading all of your answers. Many of them were very thoughtful. Of course for me, Matt made the right decision, but I appreciated the points of view about why Matt should have stayed and fought. Still, if he had stayed it would have made for much less drama in future books I have planned!

I believe Matt made the right decision because he needed to move in order to be with his family. Family is ALWAYS your #1 priority! (At least, that is my #1 priority!)
-Tater Bear
I think Matt made the right choice, he needed to stay with his family.
Wraith
I believe Matt made the right decision. Without a father in the family, he needed to stay with them. If he would have stayed and fought, the family would be stressed and worried, and he most likely would have not survived.

I think it was really neat for Matt to give Jesse Salt. It was nice of him to agree to move away to Pennsylvania with his family.
