Shout Out to Westfair Christian Academy in the Land of Lincoln

Sending a shout out to the WCA!

This was taken when the 7th through 10th grade classes from Westfair Christian Academy (WCA) went to the Abraham Lincoln museum and Library in Springfield, IL as part of our unit on the Civil War.

The 7th and 8th graders read Guerrilla Season last month and now the 9th and 10th graders are reading it and blogging with you all.

Thanks for joining our blog project Westfair Christian Academy - you rock!

Hello, WCA! It's great to see your faces. But I don't see a teacher ... camera shy?? Or just behind the lens? You guys have added a great deal to the blog - the questions and comments are very impressive. Also, kudos to the person who had the idea (same person who's behind the lens?) of adding "WCA" before your tags - it makes it even easier for me to feel a personal connection with the bloggers to know where the questions are coming from. In fact, I think I'll suggest to Mr. Langhorst that we do it this way with all school in future blogs!

I like the book, except for the ending was a bit lousy. I really didn't have a favorite part, and overall I liked the book a lot!

I think we were! The lincoln museum was Awesome! If you guys ever go, watch the movies first! The lincoln man and legend video was awesome! The seats moved during the movie, and when the battle part showed, the seats jumped and smoke came out!

To all questions about my thoughts on the book:

In my personal opinion, the book itself was awesome. BUT, the ending hurt me emotionally. It's like just walking up to some random little kid and telling him/her that Santa and the Easter Bunny are not real, Their favorite movie heroes aren't actual heroes, and several things I can't... um... "blogify" Because they're mean. If you've finished the book, you should know what I mean.

I agree with your thoughts on the Lincoln museum. My wife and I went to Springfield last summer just to see the museum and we were very impressed. I have to admit that I jumped a little when my seat moved during the video. Very cool place. You guys are all lucky to live so close that you can visit on a field trip!

To Mr. Langhorst.

About your comment about the seat moving, my best friend and I screamed! It was def. an adventure. But the museum gives you so much insite about Mr. Lincoln's life. For example, his son dying. There were these pictures in one of the halls, I think it was in the White House, and they showed pictures of him in just five years. He had aged so much! All of the stress of the war and of freeing the slaves. You feel bad for him because of all the stress and hardache. He is my favorite and in my opinion greatest president!
